Business burglaries rise again

Business burglaries rise to 75,300 - source FM World 24th April 2009.

The number of businesses falling victim to burglary is on the rise, according to the latest statistics on crime published by the government.

“Other burglaries,” the category of offence covering non-domestic burglaries including those against businesses, were up 4 per cent in England and Wales in the last quarter of 2008 according to a Home Office statistical bulletin. The number of businesses and organisations burgled increased from 72,500 in the corresponding quarter in 2007 to 75,300 at the end of last year.

The increase represents the second consecutive quarter in which “other burglaries” were 4 per cent higher than the 2007 figure, suggesting that the figures covering the July to September period were not a blip.
